About: the Outreach Team meets people who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness where they are - connecting with them in encampments, vehicles, wooded areas, or other locations in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The Outreach Team works with individuals, couples, and families who are primarily living unsheltered. Their focus is to address immediate needs and help connect people to shelter and housing options.
Their work is not just about moving people indoors — it’s about making sure no one is forgotten, and that people have opportunities to self-identify the goals they want to pursue.
The Outreach Team served approximately 175 individuals last year. Whether it’s a warm sleeping bag, a listening ear, or the first steps toward stable housing, the Outreach team brings connection and hope to those who deserve to be seen, supported, and housed.
A Lived Experience Survey Among Unsheltered People in Halifax Regional Municipality
In partnership with the Housing and Homelessness Division of the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Outreach Team at Shelter Nova Scotia, this project gathered feedback from 48 individuals who experienced unsheltered homelessness within the previous 12 months. Data was collected voluntarily between July and October 2025 to better understand the shelter, housing, and support needs of people living outdoors in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM).
