About: The Diversion Program provides financial assistance towards obtaining housing and/or eviction prevention. It is intended to prevent individuals from experiencing homelessness and address barriers to housing. The Diversion program is funded by the Department of Opportunities and Social Development.

Our program can help with:​

​

  • Rental arrears (where an eviction notice has been issued)

  • Utility arrears (where a disconnection notice has been issued)

  • Rent supplement delay (for people who have applied for rent supplements and are pending approval)

  • Housing acquisition (damage deposit, first month rent)

​

The Diversion program is not able to assist homeowners, or assist with storage fees, moving fees, temporary accommodations/hotel stays, home heating oil, phone, internet, or insurance.

 

In order to be eligible for funding, applicants must:

​

  • Live in Nova Scotia

  • Have a gross household income below the current limits set by Rental Canada Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit

  • Not have received funding from the Diversion Program in last two years

  • Have a verifiable income source and demonstrate the ability to pay rent/utilities moving forward

Please note: The processing of applications can take up to 10 days and funds are not guaranteed. If you are approved for funding, payments cannot be made directly to the applicant.
