Our Holiday Wish List

Over the holiday season we will share gifts and meals with 157 people in our facilities and another 192 people who live in the community. Your thoughtfulness makes this possible.  Below are the remaining gifts we need to ensure everyone has a gift this year. Drop off men’s items at Metro Turning Point – 2170 Barrington St. basement door, before Dec. 17th if possible. Women’s items can be dropped off at Barry House, 2706 Gottingen St. Thank you.

Men’s Pajamas bottoms – 64 pairs all sizes New men’s underwear – boxer briefs

140 – $15 grocery store gift cards –

being able to decide what to eat is a luxury

50 – $10 meal cards – (Subway, Tim Horton’s)

being out for a meal is a treat

Bus tickets – helping people get places safely Pocket calendars – staying organized matters
Notebooks, crossword puzzle books Snacks and hot chocolate, individual sizes
Slippers  – 78 pairs of men’s all sizes Small jars of instant coffee

  • This Christmas, give A Rare Gift… provide a night’s rest in someone else’s name, starting at $35.50 per night.
  • Join our monthly donors Good Friend Fund. A donation of $25 per month (82 cents a day) will ensure men and women with so little will have access to a bed, laundry, and a shower.
  • Join our $100 Supper Club – this donation pays for 22 meals. Donate a $100 a year for 2 years

The cost of running a household in Nova Scotia has increased. To offer the same services to the more than 1,200 people we annually serve we need to raise $185,000 from the community.

Due to limited storage space and health and safety issues we are no longer able to accept used clothing.  Used clothing (including shoes and coats) can be donated to Brunswick St. Mission.  This free clothing bank is available to those that stay with us use. Drop off is from 9 am – 2 pm, Monday to Friday at 2107 Brunswick St.

Donate items:  We always need & appreciate donations of

  • Personal care items for men and women (new underwear, new t-shirts, earplugs, deodorant, shower shoes/flip flops, shampoo, tampons, toothbrushes, razors)
  • Umbrellas, ponchos, chapstick
  • Bus tickets and taxi gift certificates – helping people get places safely
  • Ground or instant coffee, tea, sugar, whitener
  • Food (canned food, peanut butter, casseroles, fresh produce, grocery gift cards)
  • Individual vegetarian meals – frozen
  • Luxuries (pizzas, gift cards for meals, duffle bags)

Providing housing to over 157 men & women every day requires a lot of basic supplies. Your kind donations can be dropped off at any of our facilities. You will be asked to fill out a donation record at the time of your donation.
