Why building relationships with businesses matters.

Organizations like Dexter Construction, Killam Properties and IPOANS are making a difference for those experiencing homelessness.  Why is building relationships with business partners so important for Shelter Nova Scotia?

Our annual fundraising and awareness campaign took place on Sept. 27th on the lawn of the Halifax Regional Police station. More than 35 people spent the night ‘sleeping rough’ to raise funds and awareness for our organization. Dexter Construction, Killam Properties and IPOANS stepped up to donate to Sleep-Out for Change.  It seems fitting that the money raised at the Sleep-Out is used for building maintenance. With tight budgets maintenance often has to wait.  Part of the money raised from this event allows our maintenance committee to keep meeting and prioritizing repairs!

How a place is cared for has a direct impact on the wellness of the residents so we are working diligently to get all of our repairs handled. Having partners that we can call on for help – like Dexter, Killam Properties and IPOANS – makes getting things done easier. This is how relationships make the difference.

So, we send them a huge thank you for their support.

As a not for profit we take a three pronged approach to funding. This helps to ensure that we remain viable and able to provide support for our clients. We have government funding, grant funding, donations from community members and sponsorship and donations from the business community. It takes all of these partners for us  to provide care to those who need it.
